The Nicobar Islands are an archipelagic island chain in the eastern Indian Ocean and one of the most isolated in the world. UNESCO has declared the Nicobar Islands as a World Biosphere Reserve which is home to several endemic species. The islands are a popular tourist destination amongst Indians and foreigners.

The coastal mangroves act as a barrier by protecting the inlands from getting inundated by sea water. Every coastline is protected by rich mangrove vegetation, but we fail to protect mangroves from the ongoing destruction for reclaiming land for various infrastructure development.
